Omnibus Press is the world’s largest specialist publisher of music-related books. It publishes around 30 new titles a year to add to a backlist of over 500 titles.
Omnibus was launched in 1976 as a general non-fiction publisher to complement the sheet music published and distributed by its parent company Music Sales Ltd.
Over the succeeding decades Omnibus has published many best-selling definitive biographies on most of rock’s greatest superstars. These include Morrissey & Marr: The Severed Alliance by Johnny Rogan, Godspeed: The Kurt Cobain Graphic by Barnaby Legg, Jim McCarthy and Flameboy, Hey Ho Let’s Go: The Story of The Ramones and Nirvana: The True Story by Everett True, Under The Ivy: The Life & Music Of Kate Bush by Graeme Thomson all of which are regularly cited by magazines and critics as being amongst the finest rock biographies ever published.
Omnibus also publishes lavishly produced photo books under its Vision On imprint, with books on The Clash, Queen, Metallica, Oasis, The Smiths, Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin, amongst others including Jim Marshall’s photographs are two books by Storm Thorgerson, the eminent album sleeve designer most famous for his work with Pink Floyd. Thorgerson’s Floyd book Mind Over Matter, now in its fourth edition, was republished in 2007 and features a foreword by the group’s guitarist David Gilmour.
Upcoming titles in the Omnibus range include books on The Faces, Beatlemania, Bob Dylan, Journey, Mötorhead, Kraftwerk, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Black Eyed Peas and The Kinks. Also scheduled for 2011 is The Rolling Stone Years, a collection of evocative photographic images taken of iconic musicians by the legendary rock photographer Baron Wolman.
